The US Military has launched fresh strikes on ISIS targets in Nigeria.

Philips News reports that the US Africa Command, AFRICOM, in collaboration with the Nigerian Government, has carried out additional kinetic strikes against ISIS targets in northeastern Nigeria.

Disclosing on Monday, AFRICOM noted that no US or Nigerian forces were harmed during the strikes, adding that intelligence confirmed the targets were ISIS militants.

AFRICOM added that complete assessments were ongoing, reiterating that the removal of the terrorists diminishes the group’s capacity to plan attacks that threaten the safety and security of the US and its partners.

AFRICOM reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging specialized US capabilities to support its partners in defeating shared security threats.

This comes after United States President Donald Trump announced that American forces, in collaboration with the Nigerian Armed Forces, carried out a joint military operation that resulted in the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, identified as the second-in-command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS, worldwide.

#AFRICOM, in continued coordination with Nigeria, conducted kinetic strikes against ISIS fighters in NE Nigeria on May 17. No U.S. or Nigerian forces were harmed.

Similarly, the United States Africa Command has released footage of the air strikes against Islamic State militants carried out in North-East Nigeria on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The command confirmed the operation in a statement on its website on Monday.

AFRICOM said the strikes were conducted on May 17 in coordination with the Nigerian government, with intelligence confirming that the targets were ISIS militants.

“On May 17, 2026, U.S. Africa Command, in coordination with the Government of Nigeria, conducted additional kinetic strikes against ISIS in Northeastern Nigeria. Intelligence confirmed the targets were ISIS militants.

“Complete assessments are ongoing. No U.S. or Nigerian forces were harmed,” the statement read.

The command said the operation would weaken ISIS’s ability to plan attacks against the United States and its allies.

“The removal of these terrorists diminishes the group’s capacity to plan attacks that threaten the safety and security of the U.S. and our partners,” it added.
