1. Defence Headquarters has said that the General Court Martial inaugurated to prosecute 36 military personnel for alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be conducted with the highest standards of fairness and impartiality, in strict adherence to the extant legal frameworks of the military justice system. The military high command made the pledge in a statement on Saturday.

2. The number of newly arrived asylum-seekers into Nigeria rose by 322 persons, amounting to 21 per cent increase in the first quarter of 2026. This was as the backlog of refugees awaiting formal registration dropped by 3,613 within the same period, according to the latest data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

3. A 31-year-old man has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly attempting to kidnap his aunt, who had raised him from the age of five..The suspect, Chukwemeka Destiny, was paraded on Saturday by the command’s spokesman, SP Edafe Bright, who said Destiny had paid N900,000 to people he believed were kidnappers to abduct the woman.

4. Edo State Police Command has said its operatives rescued nine victims from two separate kidnapping incidents in the state. In a statement by the Spokesperson of the Command, Eno Ikoedem, she said he rescued victims including three in the GUO bus incident. She said six other victims were also rescued from other incidents that occurred along the Benin-Lagos expressway.

5. Jigawa State’s 2023 NNPP governorship candidate, Aminu Ringim, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress alongside his supporters in Ringim Local Government Area of the state. It was observed that Ringim’s defection comes amid increasing realignments and movement of political heavyweights from various parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

6. The New Nigeria Peoples Party says it will proceed with its congresses and national convention, despite delays by the Independent National Electoral Commission in recognising the Dr Agbo Major-led leadership of the party as directed by court orders. This is contained in a statement issued by the party’s founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, on Saturday in Lagos.

7. Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, former Governor of Kano State, on Saturday received his membership card of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his return to the fold. Shekarau received the card at his Giginyu constituency.

8. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has declared his interest to contest for the Bauchi State governorship position in the 2027 general election. He said this while addressing party supporters at a political rally on Saturday in Bauchi. Tuggar said he would contest the election under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), to bring positive change to the state.

9. Leaders of the leading opposition political parties on Saturday announced plans to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The resolution was adopted on Saturday at the national summit of the opposition political party leaders held in Ibadan, Oyo state.

10. Joint security operatives in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State have arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered N8 million ransom paid by a victim’s family. The security operatives also rescued an abducted woman from a forest hideout. The development was confirmed on Saturday by Danaan Cletus, Media Aide to the LGA Chairman, Hon. Dr. Christopher Audu Manship.
