Osun Election: You’re Killing Democracy – Davido Slams President Tinubu

Davido has accused President Tinubu of “killing democracy” over the alleged withdrawal of security personnel during the Osun governorship election.

Philips News reports that Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed concern over the alleged removal of police and military personnel from some polling units in Osun State as the governorship election moved into the vote-counting phase.

This newspaper understands that Davido made the claim on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) shortly after voting ended at polling stations across the state. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had begun sorting and counting ballots as part of the process of determining the election’s outcome.

The singer alleged that security operatives were being withdrawn from certain polling units because his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, was reportedly leading in the affected areas. The musician, who has been vocal in support of his uncle’s re-election bid, did not identify the specific polling units involved in his claim.

In a post shared on his X account on Saturday, Davido also accused President Bola Tinubu of contributing to what he described as an attack on Nigeria’s democratic process. He called on the President to intervene over the alleged withdrawal of security personnel during the election.

“Because we are winning. They want to withdraw the police and military! MR PRESIDENT TINUBU! UR KILLING DEMOCRACY,” the Afrobeat singer wrote on his X handle on Saturday.

Meanwhile, PhilipsNews reports that security agencies had deployed personnel across Osun State ahead of the election to provide protection and maintain order at polling locations.

However, at the time of the report, there was no official confirmation identifying the polling units mentioned by Davido or confirming that security personnel had been ordered to leave as claimed by the singer.
