This newspaper understands that the President also renewed Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz’s tenure as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The decisions, which take immediate effect, were disclosed in a statement issued on April 2, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement issued on the State House website, Onanuga said, ‘’President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). He replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently resigned to participate in the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

‘’President Tinubu has also renewed Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz’s appointment as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term. Both appointments take immediate effect.’’

PhilipsNews reports that Professor Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who resigned from the PTDF to pursue a governorship bid in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Before his appointment, Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. His new role places him at the helm of the PTDF, an agency responsible for developing human capacity and technical expertise for Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

According to the presidency, Aliyu has experience spanning academia, research, and public sector administration.

He is expected to oversee the fund’s programmes in training, scholarship administration, and institutional support for the oil and gas sector.

In a separate development, the President renewed the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as head of the TCN for a second and final term.

The presidency stated that the decision followed an assessment of his performance in managing the country’s transmission network. During his tenure, the TCN has implemented projects aimed at improving grid stability, expanding transmission capacity, and upgrading infrastructure.

Abdulaziz has over three decades of experience in the power sector and has also been involved in regional electricity initiatives, including the West African Power Pool (WAPP).

The TCN is responsible for the bulk transmission of electricity generated by power plants to distribution companies, making it a critical component of Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

Both appointments come amid ongoing efforts by the federal government to strengthen institutions in the energy and power sectors, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and service delivery.

The statement said that the appointees are expected to carry out their responsibilities in line with national policy objectives.
