Kwankwaso has broken the silence on allegedly working for President Tinubu’s re-election.

Philips News reports that a chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has reacted to the allegations that he was working for President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Global Television on Wednesday, the NDC’s potential Vice Presidential candidate for the 2027 election said only foolish people would say that.

This online newspaper recalls that Sanusi Bature, spokesman of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, had said that Kwankwaso was working for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election behind the scenes.

Featuring on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Bature said: “Kwankwaso is getting confused, somebody who does not believe in Yoruba presidency has been moving from Abeokuta and Ibadan to seek political fortune. He has been engaging Obasanjo, the Oyo State governor to secure a political fortune.

“This is an element of political confusion because if you believe in something you have to work for it and if you don’t, you can’t work on it.

“At some point, he sought Governor Makinde to secure a similar partnership and when Makinde opted out of that discussion, Kwankwaso went to Obi, the same Obi that he has been calling names. He saw Obi as an inferior political leader that he can’t even work with in 2023.”

Bature further accused Kwankwaso of defecting to the NDC despite sending Governor Yusuf to Tinubu to prepare for his defection to the APC.

“Somebody who said Tinubu is his friend; he ordered his political godson, the governor, to meet the President to discuss the issue of partnership and defection to APC. He withdrew at the very last hour to pursue another separate movement.

“What I want to make clear here is that there are those working for Tinubu openly, directly in the public space, and there are those who can work for Tinubu behind the scenes. And I believe whatever Kwankwaso is doing will favour Tinubu at the end of the day because Kwankwaso has worked for Tinubu in 2023.

“I’m a member of the APC and have been a member of the opposition in Kano, and I know what happened in 2023. I believe that Kwankwaso is working for Tinubu in 2027 behind the scenes,” he added.

Reacting to Bature’s claims, Kwankwaso said, “I think only foolish people would believe that.

“They have been saying it, especially when we are in the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP. Now, they will realize we are very serious people.

“I’m not conversant with anybody working for anyone. We are working for the NDC, and our blueprint is there for everybody to see.

“They are things like what we intend to do, ranging from tackling the insecurity to the issue of education, among others.”
