Pastor Adeboye has defended President Tinubu over the insecurity in Nigeria.

Philips News reports that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over the country’s worsening security situation, saying the president has carried out his constitutional responsibility by directing the armed forces to address the crisis.

Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., Adeboye argued that it was unreasonable to expect the president to personally participate in military operations after issuing orders to security agencies.

“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight,” he said.

The respected cleric maintained that once the commander-in-chief has given clear instructions to the military, the responsibility for executing those directives lies with the security chiefs. While acknowledging that insecurity has intensified across Nigeria, he urged greater efforts to identify and prosecute those financing terrorism and other violent crimes.

Although he defended President Tinubu, the RCCG General Overseer admitted that Nigeria’s security situation has deteriorated, saying that violent crimes such as terrorism and kidnapping have expanded beyond the North and are now affecting many parts of the South.

The cleric described the crisis as deeply troubling, noting that the scale of the violence has left many Nigerians questioning God’s intervention. Adeboye also claimed that those responsible for funding terrorist activities are widely known, yet they have not been brought to justice.

He revealed that he had raised the country’s security concerns during discussions with President Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu. He said he advised the president to give military commanders a 90-day deadline to end terrorism or step down from their positions.

Adeboye further urged the government to target the financiers behind terrorist groups, arguing that many of them are powerful figures, including prominent businesspeople and politicians. He warned that the violence would persist unless authorities dismantle the networks supplying terrorists with weapons, ammunition and financial support.

Meanwhile, PhilipsNews reports that Pastor Adeboye also appealed to the United States and the international community to strengthen their support for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and help restore lasting peace and security across the country.
