FG is set to replace the NYSC Khaki uniform with Adire in a major Corps members’ reform.

Philips News reports that the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) traditional khaki uniform with locally produced Adire fabric as part of a broader reform aimed at supporting Nigeria’s textile industry and boosting local manufacturing.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed the development on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief. He said the initiative is intended to ensure government spending benefits indigenous producers while encouraging the growth of Nigeria’s textile sector.

Olawande explained that Adire is already produced in several parts of the country, making it a suitable alternative for the NYSC uniform.

“It’s Adire. So, Adire is being produced in Nigeria. We have them in Ogun, we have them in Kwara, we have textile industry. Let’s put our money back into the country,” he said.

“It’s Adire… Let’s put our money back into the country.”

The minister added that the move is designed to boost indigenous industries, especially Nigeria’s textile sector, while promoting local craftsmanship through government-backed demand.

He also revealed that the government is reviewing the NYSC deployment process so that corps members will be posted according to their academic qualifications and professional skills.
