The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed concerns over his ability to participate in the 2027 general election, alleging that ongoing actions by the government are creating severe difficulties for him.
Philips News reports that Obi made the remarks during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, where he claimed that the pressure he has faced recently had become overwhelming. The former Anambra State governor said he was uncertain whether he would even be alive to contest the next presidential election.
According to Obi, the challenges he faces are affecting his personal and professional activities, and he alleges that every aspect of his livelihood has been deliberately targeted, noting that the situation had left him facing daily frustrations.
“With the way this government is going, I may not even be alive to contest the 2027 election. Every single thing I do for a living, this government is deliberately frustrating. I face frustration every day,” Obi said.
The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate also alleged that he recently experienced an incident at an airport in which his vehicle was locked, describing it as one of the difficulties he has encountered. He did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident during the interview.

Meanwhile, PhilipsNews reports that Obi’s comments come amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 elections in Nigeria, with opposition figures increasingly criticizing the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government over governance issues and the political environment in Nigeria.
The former Anambra governor has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics since the 2023 presidential election, where he emerged as a major contender. His supporters, known as the “Obidient Movement,” have continued to push for his participation in future elections, with the 2027 Presidential election being their major focus.
