Nigerians have berated Pastor Adeboye for defending President Tinubu over insecurity in Nigeria.
Philips News had earlier reported that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over the country’s worsening security situation, saying the president had fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by directing the armed forces to address the crisis.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., Adeboye argued that it was unreasonable to expect the president to personally participate in military operations after issuing orders to security agencies.
“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight,” he said.
The respected cleric maintained that once the commander-in-chief has given clear instructions to the military, the responsibility for executing those directives lies with the security chiefs. While acknowledging that insecurity has intensified across Nigeria, he urged greater efforts to identify and prosecute those financing terrorism and other violent crimes.
Although he defended President Tinubu, the RCCG General Overseer admitted that Nigeria’s security situation has deteriorated, saying that violent crimes such as terrorism and kidnapping have expanded beyond the North and are now affecting many parts of the South.
The cleric described the crisis as deeply troubling, noting that the scale of the violence has left many Nigerians questioning God’s intervention. Adeboye also claimed that those responsible for funding terrorist activities are widely known, yet they have not been brought to justice.
He revealed that he had raised the country’s security concerns during discussions with President Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu. He said he advised the president to give military commanders a 90-day deadline to end terrorism or step down from their positions.
Adeboye further urged the government to target the financiers behind terrorist groups, arguing that many of them are powerful figures, including prominent businesspeople and politicians. He warned that the violence would persist unless authorities dismantle the networks supplying terrorists with weapons, ammunition and financial support.

Pastor Adeboye also appealed to the United States and the international community to strengthen their support for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and help restore lasting peace and security across the country.
Reacting to the statement, Nigerians took to the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to berate the RCCG General Overseer for defending President Tinubu.

This is shameful and disgusting. Looks a lot like a @DCIGroup lobby campaign for Tinubu.
What in the world is he talking about? Where is the place of leadership? What were his statements on Democracy day regarding terrorism?

I don’t support those who are saying Tinubu has not done enough. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki.
Pastor Adeboye, at his aged 84, has failed to speak truth to power and rather is defending Tinubu incompetent despite a wider spate of insecurity across the country. pic.twitter.com/QlmIJ0oAnf

Adeboye is No God Sent
Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s claim that “Tinubu has done his bit” deserves to be challenged, not applauded. There was a time he openly called on Nigerians to rise and speak against bad governance. Protest was not a sin then. Demanding accountability was not… pic.twitter.com/jbK2he8dwo

To those who sincerely believe that Adeboye is unfairly attacked (minus those who blindly defend him),
This is the video of him saying so. It’s worse.

Pastor Adeboye went to the US to convince the US government that Tinubu is doing well and to also show subtle support that there is no Christian Genocide because at least he’s a pastor of a very big church.
