His family has revealed the cause of Alexx Ebubo’s death.

Philips News had reported earlier that Nigerian actor, entertainer, and humanitarian, Alex Ekubo-Okwaraeke, has passed away. Though details surrounding his illness and passing are still emerging, reports have it that Alex Ekubo died of kidney cancer-related issues.

Alexx Ekubo Sickness:

This online newspaper understands that concerns about Alexx Ekubo’s health grew in 2025 after the fine-Nollywood actor disappeared from social media and appeared noticeably slimmer in a resurfaced video. However, people close to him publicly stated that he was not sick but only stepped away from social media and work for personal reasons.

On May 12, 2026, the news broke that Mr Ekubo had passed away after an illness, with some reports claiming he had been privately battling cancer.

What Killed Alexx Ekubo?

Reacting to the public’s questions about the deceased’s sudden death, the family of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has confirmed his death.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, the family revealed that he died at Evercare Hospital in Lagos due to complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

The family described his final days as marked by strength and faith, noting that “he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world”.

They also requested prayers and privacy, adding that funeral arrangements will be announced later.

“During this deeply painful time, we humbly ask for privacy and prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul, and for all who mourn this immense loss.

“Further details regarding funeral arrangements and other family matters will be communicated in due course.

“We sincerely thank everyone for the love, support, prayers, and understanding extended to the family throughout this period,” the statement concluded.
